CONFERENCE VENUEBIZKAIA ARETOA – UPV/EHU

The Bizkaia Aretoa – UPV/EHU or Biscay Hall is a new building designed by the Pritzker-prize winner architect Alvaro Siza. The Biscay Hall is located in the Bilbao city center, in the vicinity of the Guggenheim Museum and close to other major city sights. The building has an original L-shape opened to the Bilbao estuary, right in the center of the renovated Abandoibarra Avenue and between two well-known city bridges (Padre Arrupe and Deusto), providing easy access and communication with the city.

The building concept emphasized "maintaining the scale of the place, respecting cornices and placing the ground floor at the service of the pedestrian, open and permeable, offering views inside with huge wings that integrate the private space in the public area and vice versa".

The building surface covers over 9,000 square meters, spread over six floors, including the large Mitxelena Auditorium, with capacity for 441 persons. Other lecture halls and exhibition rooms will be available for the Conference.

The Bizkaia Aretoa hosts all kind of social, cultural, academic and scientific events, either organized by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) or external institutions. As a result, the Bizkaia Aretoa has become a reference place for hosting events in Bilbao.
